A post-doctoral research position in mineral physics/experimental petrology is available within the Department of Geological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University.
A Ph.D. in geosciences, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field is required, and experience with high-pressure/temperature experimental techniques is desirable. Research projects may involve experimental determination of chemical diffusion coefficients in minerals relevant to the deep mantle and/or the early solar system, trace element partition coefficients in metallic systems relevant to planetary cores, or other topics of mutual interest. The position is a one-year appointment with the opportunity for renewal based on performance and the availability of funding.
Applicants should send a CV, a short statement of research experience and interests, and contact information for at least two referees to Jim Van Orman (james.vanorman@case.edu). To ensure full consideration, applications should be sent by October 15, 2010.
