How Could the Earth’s Core Leak? by Dr. David Walker, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory

Abstract: The formation of the core produced a prodigiously stable
physical and chemical arrangement early in Earth history.
And yet there are a few suggestions that the process is
now running slightly backwards. The phase equilibria that
might help understand the process are sketchy at best.
Attempts to uncloud these equilibria and light element
solubilities in liquid metals at very high pressures are
presented.
